Kiel Ironclad Race 4.10.1866

The American monitor USS Miantonomoh made a voyage to Europe in 1866 (yes, contrary to popular belief, those things were ocean-going). It came in Kiel to a race with the Prussian ironclad SMS Arminius. The German ship won. This is how a US civil war ship and the young German/Prussian Navy came into contact
